اعتُقل مؤسس حركة الشباب الهندية المعروفة باسم "الصراصير" يوم السبت، واحتُجز أكثر من 2000 شخص مع تشديد السلطات إجراءاتها ضد الاحتجاجات على حكومة مودي. ويطالب المحتجون باستقالة رئيس هيئة الانتخابات بسبب إعادة هيكلة مثيرة للجدل لقائمة الناخبين. ونشرت السلطات آلاف رجال الشرطة وقوات شبه عسكرية في أنحاء نيودلهي، وتم تعليق خدمات الهاتف المحمول وإغلاق عشرات محطات المترو. وتقول المعارضة إن تغييرات تسجيل الناخبين قد تحرم ملايين الأشخاص من حق التصويت وتفيد حزب بهاراتيا جاناتا.

Protesters are demanding the country’s elections chief resign over the government’s controversial overhaul of the voter roll. Thousands of police and paramilitary personnel were deployed across New Delhi on Saturday, while mobile services were suspended and dozens of metro stations were shut down as authorities sought to prevent the protests.
