Deputies arrived within minutes. According to the family’s notice of claim and sheriff’s office accounts, 62-year-old Gregory Allen Kase, was found naked in the bathroom of the hotel room holding a box cutter or knife. Deputies ordered him multiple times from the hallway and after forcing entry to drop the weapon. He did not comply. Roughly 13 minutes after the call went out, two deputies fired their weapons, striking Kase in the chest and stomach. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The New York State Attorney General’s Office is leading the investigation, with the Sheriff’s Office also conducting internal reviews. The involved deputies were placed on administrative leave.
