It is the ninth main game in the Resident Evil series, following Resident Evil Village (2021). It features a new playable character, the FBI analyst Grace Ashcroft, who investigates a series of mysterious deaths involving the survivors of the Raccoon City incident with the aid of the federal agent Leon S. Kennedy. Grace's sections continue the survival horror gameplay of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard (2017) and Resident Evil Village. Leon's sections are action-oriented, similar to games such as Resident Evil 4 (2005). Both characters can be played from first-person or third-person perspectives.
