Will Trump Enter the Yemen Conflict Before the Midterm Elections? - Current Debate

An episode of Al Jazeera's program "Nizam al-Saa" (Hour Debate) examines remarks by US President Donald Trump about striking the Houthis in Yemen and how serious any US military involvement might be. The discussion presents two views: political science professor Atefeh Tafyani, of Tehran University, argues the US move reflects erratic, unclear strategy and would not change Tehran's or its allies' positions. Political analyst Salim Zakhour sees Trump's moves as tied to the November 3 midterm elections and considers a US military escalation against the Houthis unlikely at this stage. The episode is presented by Jalal Shahda.

• Trump's remarks on striking the Houthis and the seriousness of a possible US military engagement
• Political science professor Atefeh Tafyani's view that the move lacks strategic clarity
• Analyst Salim Zakhour's view that the decision is linked to the midterm elections
