Japan's first "flying base station" aims to fix communication outages during disasters; challenges ahead
Covers a demonstration of a "flying base station" intended to address communication outages during disasters in Japan. The 65-meter airship-type aircraft flew more than 10,000 km to reach Japanese skies and aims to cover areas up to 200 km in diameter. The report followed a test in Kochi Prefecture simulating a Nankai Trough earthquake, checking whether real-time video and audio could be maintained. It also examines the challenges to practical use.
