Seven firms including major shipbuilders join on ammonia-fuelled ships
Seven companies, including major shipbuilders and energy firms, have announced a large project covering ammonia procurement through to the operation of ammonia-fuelled ships. The partners aim to start commercial operation around 2030. The report notes that ammonia emits no carbon dioxide when burned and can be transported and stored as a liquid, but its toxicity requires high safety standards. The participants say they want to combine their strengths to build ships for a new era, as China and South Korea grow in the shipbuilding market.
