Autumn decorations: contemporary artist Yoshitomo Nara and ice sculptor Tsuneo Ono among recipients

The recipients of the autumn Japanese state decorations have been announced. Contemporary artist Yoshitomo Nara received the Medal with Purple Ribbon for his contributions to art and culture. Known for paintings of children with large heads and defiant gazes, he was also named to TIME magazine's list of the world's 100 most influential people last year. Ice sculptor Tsuneo Ono was among those awarded the Medal with Yellow Ribbon for long years of dedicated work.

「秋の褒章」の受章者が発表され、芸術・文化の分野で活躍した人に贈られる「紫綬褒章」には、現代美術家の奈良美智さんらが選ばれました。 　奈良さんは大きな頭部と挑発的な眼差しが特徴的な子どもを描いた作品で国際的な評価を集め、去年、アメリカのタイム誌の「世界で最も影響力のある100人」にも選出されました。 　奈良さんは、「国から褒められるために絵を描いてきたわけではないし、どちらかといえば、世の中の常識や権威とは少し距離を置いてやってきたつもりです。そんな自分が国から褒章を頂くのは、なんだか不思議な感じがします」とコメントしています。 　また、長年仕事に励み、模範となる人に贈られる黄綬褒章には、氷彫刻家の小野恒夫さんらが選ばれました。 彫刻家　小野恒夫さん 「本当にこれを機会に、やっぱり少しでも（氷彫刻界が）盛り上がればいいなと。自分の下の人たちにつなげていければいいなっていうところ」 [テレ朝NEWS] https://news.tv-asahi.co.jp
