Four Lawmakers Including Former PM Ishiba Abstain on Consumption Tax Cut Bill Vote

Four members of Japan's Liberal Democratic Party, including former prime minister Shigeru Ishiba and former economy minister Obuchi, abstained from the plenary vote on a consumption tax cut bill. Obuchi said concerns over funding and other issues had not been resolved, and that following the party's decision was natural. Funada said a clear drop in food prices could not be expected and asked the government to present specific figures for a new benefit for low- and middle-income households. Policy Research Council chair Kobayashi said he regretted the abstentions and would check the facts.

消費減税関連法案を巡り、これまで消費減税に否定的な考えを示していた自民党の石破前総理大臣や小渕元経産大臣ら4人が本会議での採決を棄権しました。 自民党　小渕元経産大臣 「消費税は、私たち自民党の先輩方が大変な苦労をして犠牲を払いながら、でも日本の将来を考えて国家国民のために作った大事な制度だと。これまでの審議を見ても、財源のこともはじめ、様々な懸念というものが払拭をされていない」 　小渕氏は本会議を退席した後、ANNの取材に応じ、「ギリギリまで悩んだ。党として決めたことに従うのは当然のことだ」と述べ、反対ではなく退席したと明らかにしました。 自民党　船田衆議院議員 「食料品（価格）が確実に下がるという効果が期待できないということ、2年後の税率を戻す時に増税だ、大増税だということで様々な議論が出て、結局は戻らない可能性が高いというふうに思いますので」 　船田元衆議院議員は、採決を棄権したと明らかにしたうえで中・低所得者への新たな給付制度について政府は、対象者や規模など具体的な数字を示すべきだと述べました。 　このほか石破前総理大臣と古川元法務大臣も途中退席していて、石破氏は周辺に「そんなものには賛成できない」と話しています。 　一方、小林政調会長は棄権した4人について「非常に遺憾だ」と述べ、事実関係を確認する考えを示しました。 [テレ朝NEWS] https://news.tv-asahi.co.jp
