US death row inmate who survived lethal injection describes lasting pain; defense seeks commutation
Christa Pike, a death row inmate in Tennessee, survived two lethal drug injections during an execution carried out about a month earlier. In a statement, she described ongoing physical and emotional pain since that night. She has since been discharged from hospital and is held in a prison medical facility. Her defense is asking that her death sentence be commuted to life imprisonment. Pike was sentenced to death in 1995 for the murder of a classmate.
