Description from TEDx Talks

An actor’s journey is often seen through the characters they play and the projects they become part of. What remains unseen is everything that happens between those moments. Drawing from his journey from Ahmedabad to working across Gujarati cinema, Hindi films, television and digital platforms, Devarshi Shah explores what it means to build an identity in an industry where rejection is constant and validation is temporary. From starting out as an actor from Gujarat trying to find his place, to witnessing Gujarati cinema, artists and stories receive increasing recognition beyond the state, Devarshi reflects on the personal journey behind that evolution. The talk goes beyond acting to explore a universal question: How do you continue to believe in yourself when you are still waiting for the world to see what you see in yourself? Through personal experiences of auditions, rejection, waiting, characters and reinvention, Devarshi explores how an actor learns to separate identity from validation, how every character offers a new perspective, and why the journey from being “nobody” to being recognised begins with finding your own voice. Devarshi Shah is an Indian actor from Gujarat, India. He is known for his role in Gujarati film Hardik Abhinandan. He later starred in films like Bau Na Vichar and Raado. He also appeared in TV serials Yeh Un Dinon Ki Baat Hai and Rishton Ka Chakravyuh. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
