The World's Favorite Advice: "Follow Your Passion" | Segun Solomon | TEDxOsogbo

The most common career advice young people hear, "follow your passion," is questioned in this TEDx talk by Segun Solomon. He argues that passion works as fuel rather than a destination, and that competence, purpose and direction are what carry a person forward. The talk outlines a first step that many people skip and a view of sustainable success built on value, scale and trust. Segun Solomon is the founder and CEO of Madros Technologies in Nigeria and founded the Tech Parrot media platform. The talk was given at an independently organized TEDx event.

• Challenges the idea that passion alone leads to success
• Presents passion as fuel, with competence, purpose and direction as key drivers
• Discusses a first step that people often skip
• Covers value, scale and trust as elements of sustainable success

"Follow your passion" is the most repeated advice young people receive. This talk challenges it, arguing that passion is fuel, not a destination: competence carries you, purpose gives you somewhere to go, and direction gets you there. It walks through the missing first step most people skip, and the real equation of value, scale, and trust behind sustainable success. Segun Solomon is the founder and CEO of Madros Technologies, where he leads IT consulting, digital skills development, and brand innovation across Nigeria. He also founded Tech Parrot, a technology media platform, and built the Madros Academy of Technologies into a training ground for thousands of young people entering the digital economy. Beyond his companies, Segun shapes policy as a member of the Technical Working Group under Nigeria's National Information Technology Development Agency and serves on the Osun State Advisory Board on Technology, Innovation, and Digital Economy. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
