GMO Apologizes at First Press Conference Since Unauthorized Access; Server Breached in August, Undetected Until October

GMO Internet Group held its first press conference since the unauthorized access was discovered and President Masatoshi Kumagai apologized to customers. The company said attackers had broken into a server in August, but the group only became aware of the access on the 20th of last month, after users made inquiries. Kumagai also acknowledged that a vulnerability had been flagged two years earlier and that countermeasures were insufficient. He ruled out resigning at this time.

GMOインターネットグループは不正アクセスが発覚して以来、初めて会見し、8月には犯人側がサーバーに侵入していたことなどを明らかにしました。 GMOインターネットグループ　熊谷正寿社長 「この度はお客様をお守りすることができず、誠に申し訳ありませんでした」 　会見では、2年前にグループのセキュリティー会社の専門家からシステムの脆弱（ぜいじゃく）性が指摘され、当時4回にわたって緊急メンテナンスを行ったものの、対策は不十分であったと認めました。 　一方で、グループトップである熊谷社長には報告が上がっていなかったということです。 　また、今年8月には犯人側がサーバーに侵入していましたが、GMO側が不正アクセスを把握したのは利用者から問い合わせを受けて調査した先月20日でした。 　犯人側からの連絡は先月23日以降、来ていないとしています。 　熊谷社長は、問題発覚後に自身のSNSに笑顔の写真を投稿したことなどについて「我々には脅迫は効かないよと、トップの私が発信したつもりだったが、結果としては間違いだった」としました。 　そして、「悪意に汚染されているインターネットを放置したまま死ねない」として、現時点での辞任は否定しました。 [テレ朝NEWS] https://news.tv-asahi.co.jp
