Description from TEDx Talks

What if your mind isn't just in your head, but is constantly being shaped by a quiet conversation with your gut? This talk delves into the fascinating world of the gut-brain axis, revealing how our physical bodies continuously communicate with our brains to influence our moods, emotions, and overall mental health. The presentation explains how the millions of nerves and the complex microbiome in our digestive system act as a "second brain," constantly sending signals that can dictate whether we feel energized and focused, or sluggish and irritable. The central idea is that our mental well-being is intrinsically linked to our physical state. By understanding this "second conversation" and the bidirectional relationship between the gut and the brain, we can take proactive steps to improve our health through better diet, exercise, and lifestyle choices. Dr. Zubin Dev Sharma is a gastroenterologist, educator, and physician-scientist whose work explores one of medicine's most fascinating frontiers: the conversation between the gut and the brain. Over the past decade, he has been instrumental in advancing the field of Neurogastroenterology and GI Motility in India, helping transform the understanding and care of disorders that often remain unexplained despite routine medical testing. A double Gold Medalist in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology, Dr. Sharma has pioneered advanced GI motility diagnostics in North India, established GI physiology laboratories across the country, trained physicians from India and overseas, and contributed extensively to the field through more than 70 scientific publications, book chapters, and clinical guidelines. His work spans clinical innovation, research, education, and advanced therapeutic endoscopy. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
