Court dismisses lawsuit seeking halt to Hamaoka nuclear plant operations
The Shizuoka District Court dismissed a lawsuit in which citizens had asked Chubu Electric Power to stop operations at the Hamaoka nuclear plant. The court found there was no concrete danger because the plant has no prospect of restarting, so there was no benefit in halting its operation. The plaintiffs argued that the site's location was too poor to withstand earthquakes and tsunami, while the utility said safety was ensured. The plaintiffs' lawyers plan to appeal.
