First snow in Hokkaido as temperatures plunge across Honshu after summer-like heat (October 22, 2026)

Hokkaido recorded the first snowfall of the season, the earliest in Japan this year. Cold air brought snow to the Nakayama Pass at over 800 metres, where snowplows were deployed. Wakkanai and Asahikawa also observed first snow, three days later than usual. Meanwhile, temperatures fell sharply across Kanto and western Japan, which had seen off-season summer heat the day before.

北海道では今シーズン全国トップをきって初雪の便りが届きました。全国的に気温は大幅に下がっています。 　寒気の影響で、北海道にある標高800メートル以上の中山峠では、道路に雪が積もり、除雪車が出動しました。 　稚内、旭川では初雪を観測しています。いずれも平年より3日遅い観測です。 　22日夕方まで雪が続く見込みで、峠道の運転は冬用タイヤなど雪への対策が必要です。 　一方、21日、季節外れの真夏日が続出した関東から西では気温差が大きくなっています。 　22日午後1時の気温は、21日と比べ長野で15.6℃、富山で13.0℃も低くなっています。 　最高気温は11月並みになるところもあり体調管理に注意が必要です。 [テレ朝NEWS] https://news.tv-asahi.co.jp
