Hokkaido foxes wrestle on residential sidewalk in Asahikawa

Footage shows two Hokkaido red foxes pushing each other with their forepaws on a sidewalk in a residential area of Asahikawa city. One fox forced the other into the road, ending the bout. Ikeda Takako, an associate professor at Hokkaido University who studies fox behavior, said the pair are likely siblings born this year and that the yelping sounds signal playful affection. Experts note such play helps young foxes practice hunting skills. Viewers are advised not to approach foxes, as they may carry the Echinococcus parasite.
