US journalist: lack of American vision to end war with Iran leaves questions open

US affairs journalist Mohammed Al-Manshawy argues that President Donald Trump's assurances of an imminent conclusion to the war with Iran fall within election-season rhetoric, aimed at reassuring the American public about rising energy prices and inflation. He says the US administration lacks a comprehensive vision for ending the conflict. He also argues that American military superiority does not mean Tehran will inevitably surrender, and that the decision to end the confrontation rests with Iran's leadership rather than the White House.

• Trump's assurances viewed in the context of election rhetoric and energy prices
• View that the decision to end the confrontation lies with Iran's leadership
