Iraq orders closure of Shalamcheh border crossing with Iran to travelers and goods

Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi has ordered the closure of the Shib border crossing with Iran in Maysan province to travelers and goods from Wednesday morning until further notice. Government sources told Al Jazeera the move is for administrative and logistical reasons and is linked to a plan to close nine crossings stretching from Basra to the Kurdistan Region. The decision follows earlier closures at Shib, Shalamcheh and Mandali that were tied to investigations into previous attacks. Security forces are implementing government directives to control movement across the eastern border crossings.
