Description from TEDx Talks

There is one key questions posed: How does modern corporations distract us from their real impact? What if the empty rooftops, car parks and forgotten corners of our city could feed us? Zac Toh shares how City Sprouts turns disused spaces across Singapore into thriving urban farms. He shows how these farms reconnect communities with where their food comes from, and he makes the case for reimagining our urban landscape. He challenges young people to look at the spaces around them differently and to see public issues like food security and sustainability as problems they can help solve. Zac Toh is an urban greening pioneer, sustainability entrepreneur, and the founder of City Sprouts, Singapore's leading community urban farming social enterprise. Growing up immersed in his family's plant nurseries, Zac channelled his passion for horticulture into redefining urban spaces by first by founding GWS Living Art, an architectural greening firm behind innovations like Asia’s first green-roofed public buses, and later by launching City Sprouts. By repurposing unused urban infrastructure into vibrant agritech hubs, Zac bridges local food production with social inclusion and environmental education. A dedicated community builder, he champions actionable ways to transform concrete jungles into living, regenerative ecosystems. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
