Japan's births rise in first half of year for first time since 2015 (Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare)
The number of babies born in Japan between January and June this year exceeded the same period last year. According to the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, 320,458 Japanese births were recorded in the first half of the year, more than 1,300 above the 319,079 recorded a year earlier. It is the first first-half increase in 11 years, and the rise is linked to marriage numbers that have grown for two consecutive years. The report also notes that the natural population decline narrowed for the first time since 2021.
