House of Representatives seat reduction: Democratic Party for the People backs LDP amendment, bill nears passage

The Democratic Party for the People has decided to support a Liberal Democratic Party amendment to cut House of Representatives seats, bringing the bill close to passage. The amendment removes 31 proportional representation seats and merges the Chugoku and Shikoku blocks. Most opposition parties oppose the plan, making the Democratic Party for the People the only one to back it. The party had called for a cut of 19 seats but welcomed electoral system changes, including a unified party list.

衆議院の議員定数削減を巡り、国民民主党は、比例のみ31議席を減らすことに加え、中国と四国のブロック統合などを盛り込んだ自民党の修正案に賛成することを決めました。 　野党が軒並み反対するなか、国民民主が唯一賛成に回ったことで法案の成立にめどが立った形です。 国民民主党　古川国対委員長 「我が党が見直しとして提案したことは、定数以外はほぼ我々の考え方が採用された」 　国民民主は19議席の削減を主張していましたが、比例代表で統一名簿の導入など、選挙制度の見直しが新たに盛り込まれたことなどを評価し、賛成を決めました。 　与党は参議院が少数与党の状況を踏まえ、国民民主と水面下で調整を続けてきました。 　自民党幹部は「国民民主の理解は得られたが、他の野党は反発する」と述べ、消費減税法案への影響を懸念しています。 　連立を組む日本維新の会も賛成する方向で調整していて、各党はこの後、協議で賛否を表明します。 [テレ朝NEWS] https://news.tv-asahi.co.jp
