Japan to draft comprehensive population strategy aimed at reversing declining birthrate, with direction on foreign residents set by year-end

The Japanese government has set up a new expert panel and related meetings to accelerate efforts to halt the declining birthrate. A comprehensive population strategy is due to be drafted by the end of the year. The council set up on the 28th will compile basic targets for reversing the decline in births, while outlining broad directions on labor market reform and coexistence with foreign residents. A population simulation based on recent birthrates will also be presented, and individual policies are expected to be discussed from next year.

少子化に歯止めを掛ける取り組みを加速させるため、政府は新たに有識者会議などを設置しました。年内に「人口総合戦略」を策定します。 城内内閣府特命担当大臣 「少子化傾向の反転と人口減少への適応策の両面からの意義や効果を改めて考え、関係府省庁の連携を深めつつ、取り組みの一層の強化につなげていくことも重要であると考えております」 　28日に設置された人口総合戦略に関する会議では、2008年をピークに人口の減少が続くなか、少子化に歯止めを掛ける基本的な目標などについて年内に取りまとめます。 　労働人口が減っても経済が成長する社会を築くために、労働市場の改革や外国人との共生といったテーマで大きな方向性も打ち出すことにしています。 　また、足元の出生率などを踏まえた人口動態のシミュレーションも新たに示す方針です。 　個別の政策については戦略策定後の来年から検討が始まる予定です。 [テレ朝NEWS] https://news.tv-asahi.co.jp
