First snowfall of the season on Mount Fuji under a new observation method

Mount Fuji has recorded its first snow cap of the season. The Japan Meteorological Agency announced the observation at 8 a.m. on the 30th, and snow was seen near the summit. This season the agency switched from visual observation to judgments based on analysis such as weather radar. The observation came one week later than last year's visual observation.

30日は広い範囲で朝から雨が降っています。標高の高い所では雪が降り、富士山からは初冠雪の便りが届きました。 　30日は気圧の谷や湿った空気の影響で全国的に雨が降っていますが、標高の高い所では雨が雪に変わっています。 　富士山では、朝から山頂付近が雪化粧している様子が確認されました。 　気象庁は午前8時、富士山で初冠雪を観測したと発表しました。 　今シーズンはすでに北日本や北陸、関東の山々から初冠雪の便りが届いています。 　また、今シーズンからは観測方法が変わり、目視から気象レーダーなどの解析による判定に切り替わっています。 　富士山では目視観測だった去年より1週間遅い観測となりました。 [テレ朝NEWS] https://news.tv-asahi.co.jp
