Nippon Paper has announced it will not reopen its Yatsushiro mill, which was damaged in the Kumamoto earthquake at the end of July. A chimney collapsed during the quake, nine people died, and the plant has been shut since. The company said heavy damage to production equipment and buildings would require three to four years of repairs at high cost. It is considering new business on the closed site and will keep employees by reassigning them to other locations.
