Four-time women's shogi titleholder Nishiyama set to become first woman professional shogi player

Tomoka Nishiyama (31), a four-time women's shogi titleholder, has announced she will exercise her right to become a professional shogi player, the first woman to do so. At a press conference held at the Shogi Kaikan in Shibuya, Ward, Tokyo, she said she wanted to keep fighting to aim higher. Women normally need to advance through the Reisei-kai training system or pass a transfer exam, and Nishiyama met the requirement under a rule introduced last June: winning the top women's title, Hakuryo, five times in total. She will officially become a professional on April 1 next year.

女性として初めて将棋の「棋士」になる権利を獲得していた西山朋佳女流四冠（31）が棋士になることを表明しました。 西山朋佳女流四冠 「もっと上を目指す戦いをしてみたいという気持ちでした。その気持ちを大事にしたいと考え、今回、行使をすることを決めました」 　西山朋佳女流四冠は渋谷区にある将棋会館で会見を開き、棋士になる意向を明らかにしました。 　女性が棋士になるには、養成機関の「奨励会」で勝ち抜くか、編入試験に合格する必要がありますが、西山四冠はいずれもかなっていませんでした。 　しかし去年6月、女流タイトルの最高位「白玲」を通算5期獲得すれば「棋士」になる権利を得られる制度が導入され、西山四冠は10日、この条件をクリアしていました。 　西山四冠は来年4月1日付で女性として初めて棋士となります。 [テレ朝NEWS] https://news.tv-asahi.co.jp
