Passion, Risk & the Art of Starting Again | Tom de Dorlodot | TEDxHorta

Tom de Dorlodot, a professional paraglider pilot and international speaker, has spent nearly two decades on expeditions to remote regions including the Himalayas and Africa, and has crossed the Atlantic by air. In this TEDxHorta talk he looks at what happens when everything falls apart and the courage needed to begin again. The talk frames starting over as a possibly essential skill of the present time, drawing on passion and risk. The Portuguese description notes that his expeditions taught him to handle uncertainty and keep moving without having all the answers, lessons he now shares with teams and leaders working in demanding environments.

• Crossing the Atlantic by air
• What happens when everything falls apart
• Why the willingness to start over may be an important skill

Tom de Dorlodot has spent nearly two decades exploring some of the most remote places on earth, from the Himalayas to Africa, crossing the Atlantic by air. This talk goes beyond adventure. It’s about what happens when everything falls apart and the courage it takes to begin again. A raw and honest conversation about passion, risk, and why the willingness to start over might be the most important skill of our time. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
