Man, 51, arrested over alleged conversion of model gun into lethal pistol

A 51-year-old company employee has been arrested on suspicion of converting a model gun into a pistol capable of killing by attaching a metal pipe to it. The incident is alleged to have taken place at his home in Amagasaki, Hyogo Prefecture, between 2024 and this year. According to the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department, the suspect bought parts online and at 100-yen shops and reportedly test-fired the modified weapon at home. He admitted the charges, saying he had been interested in the structure of real guns, and police seized a rifle model gun and handmade gunpowder while investigating whether other illegally modified guns exist.

モデルガンに金属製パイプを付けるなど殺傷能力がある拳銃に改造したとして、51歳の男が逮捕されました。 　会社員の容疑者は2024年から今年にかけて、兵庫県尼崎市の自宅で、モデルガンに金属製のパイプを取り付けるなどして殺傷能力のある拳銃に改造した疑いが持たれています。 　警視庁によりますと、容疑者はインターネットや100円ショップなどで部品を購入し、改造した拳銃を自宅で試し撃ちしていたとみられています。 　取り調べに対し、「本物の銃の構造に興味があり作ってしまった」と容疑を認めています。 　警視庁は容疑者の自宅からライフルのモデルガンや手製の火薬などを押収していて、他にも違法に改造された銃があるとみて調べています。
