Average rice price falls for 11th straight week to 2,788 yen per 5 kg, down 33 yen from the previous week

The average retail price of rice at supermarkets across Japan has fallen for 11 consecutive weeks. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, the average price for the week ending October 25 was 2,788 yen per 5 kilograms, 33 yen lower than the week before. Prices have been below 3,000 yen for seven straight weeks. Continued declines are expected due to a surplus of rice.
