Spain's prime minister calls snap election after housing protests | BBC News
Spain's prime minister Pedro Sánchez has called a snap general election. The decision follows the defeat in parliament on Friday of a package of measures aimed at tackling the housing crisis. The measures were drafted after nationwide protests, which were triggered by the eviction of an 87-year-old woman from her home after she failed to pay a sharp rent increase. Sánchez has led the government since 2018, and the next general election was not due until summer 2027.
