Former Syrian diplomat: escalation between Damascus and Amman does not serve either country's interests

Qutaiba Idlbi, former head of the American affairs department at the Syrian Foreign Ministry, says the killing of Syrian civilians by Jordanian forces requires acknowledgment of responsibility, an apology and solidarity with the victims. He questions why Syrian security forces did not address threats troubling Jordan inside Syrian territory and what level of coordination existed before the attack. He calls for security and military coordination that protects both countries' sovereignty and prevents repeated attacks, stressing that escalation does not serve Damascus or Amman.
