PM Takaichi: No plans for a public vote on consumption tax hike

Prime Minister Takaichi said that the food consumption tax rate will return to 8 percent two years after the planned cut, and that there are no plans to postpone the increase due to economic conditions. For that reason, she said, no public vote is envisioned. The government plans to cut the food tax from 8 to 1 percent for two years from April 2027 and restore the original rate in April 2029. Related bills have begun deliberation in the House of Representatives plenary session.

食料品の消費税率を引き下げから2年後に8％に戻すことについて、高市総理大臣は景気を理由に延期する考えはなく、国民に信を問うことも想定していないと述べました。 国民民主党　浅野哲衆院議員 「過去消費税率の引き上げは景気を理由に2度延期されました。その度に当時の総理は国民に信を問いました。景況を理由に延期する場合には国民に信を問う必要があるとお考えになりますか」 高市総理大臣 「2年後には税率を確実に元に戻すこととし、景気を理由に延期をすることは考えていないため、国民に信を問うことは想定しておりません」 　政府は2027年4月から2年間、食料品の消費税率を8％から1％に引き下げ、2029年4月に元の税率に戻す方針で、今月20日の衆議院本会議で関連法案が審議入りしました。 　このなかで国民民主党の浅野議員は、景気が悪化した場合に税率を元に戻す時期を延期できる「景気条項」を法案に盛り込まなかった理由をただしました。 　これに対して高市総理は、税率を戻す際には新たな支援金が本格導入され、働く中低所得者は所得に応じて手取りがさらに増えるためだと説明しました。 　一方、大規模な災害や感染症の拡大が起きた場合には「臨機応変に判断する」と述べました。 [テレ朝NEWS] https://news.tv-asahi.co.jp
