PM Takaichi: Food consumption tax to return to 8% after cut ends

Japanese Prime Minister Takaichi said that if she is not prime minister when the food consumption tax cut ends in two years, the next prime minister will be responsible for restoring the rate. She made the remark in response to a question in the House of Representatives from lawmaker Shigenori. She based the position on a ruling party decision and said a prime minister from the current ruling bloc would take the same approach.

高市総理大臣は、食料品の消費減税が終わる2年後に自身が総理大臣でない場合には次の総理が責任を持って税率を元に戻すとの考えを示しました。 民主改革の会　重徳衆院議員 「税率引き下げが終わる2年後について高市総理は『私が責任を持って確実に税率を元に戻して参ります』と述べておられますが、本当に戻せるのでしょうか。仮に2年後の総理が高市さんではなかったら、どの党のどなたが責任を持つことになるのですか」 高市総理大臣 「2年後には責任をもって確実に税率を元に戻して参ります。与党での党議決定をしていますから、現在の与党の総理であれば同様の対応になると考えます」 　高市総理は食料品の消費減税が終わる2029年4月に自身が退陣している場合、自民党と日本維新の会の総理であれば同様に責任を持って8％に戻すと説明しました。 [テレ朝NEWS] https://news.tv-asahi.co.jp
