About this videoWritten by AI from the source information

A psychology-focused talk argues that a single thought can shape whether a person is set back by a failure or grows after it. It traces how internal thoughts turn into emotions and, over time, into lasting personality traits, drawing on neuroplasticity and Viktor Frankl's logotherapy. The speaker explains that people respond differently to the same setback depending on how they appraise it. The talk's central message is that while many challenges, such as health crises or exam failures, cannot always be controlled, Psychological Capital (PsyCap), built through hope, self-efficacy, resilience and optimism, gives people room to choose their response. The session was given at a TEDx event organized independently by a local community.

Description from TEDx Talks

What if the difference between being defeated by a setback and thriving after one simply comes down to a fleeting thought? Speaking from a psychological perspective, this talk explores how our internal thoughts transit into emotions, which eventually harden into our defining personality traits. Drawing on the concepts of neuroplasticity and Viktor Frankl's logotherapy, the speaker illustrates how different individuals react to the exact same failures based on their cognitive appraisal rather than the event itself. The central idea is simple: while we cannot always control the challenging situations we face—including health crises or exam failures—cultivating Psychological Capital (PsyCap) through hope, self-efficacy, resilience, and optimism gives us the ultimate freedom to choose our response and overcome adversity. Prince has qualified several prestigious national and institutional competitive examinations in Psychology, including NET-JRF (2021), GATE (2022), DUET Ph.D. (2022), UP-PGT (2021), DSSSB EVGC (2023), DRDO Scientist ‘B’ (2023), and UP Assistant Professor (2025). His core strength lies in advanced psychological insight, with a keen ability to interpret implicit meanings, identify underlying patterns, and understand human behaviour. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
