The Unfinished Side of Innovation | Rathi Meena | TEDxRathinam Technical Campus
Innovation is often judged by its breakthroughs, but the speaker asks who is left out when inventions are unaffordable or hard to access. Drawing on work with a biotechnology-based edible-wrapper concept, the talk argues that accessibility, affordability and inclusion should be part of an idea from the start, not added after it is finished. The central point is that a solution can be technically strong and still fail to reach people. The talk frames progress as moving forward together, with the gap between what is created and who is reached as the unfinished part of innovation.

- Progress framed as moving forward together
We live in a world that celebrates breakthroughs and inventions, believing every innovation brings us closer to a better future. But what about those who cannot afford the solutions we create or access the technologies we celebrate? Through my journey of exploring a biotechnology-based edible-wrapper concept, I began asking not just how to make an idea work, but who would actually benefit from it. I realized that accessibility, affordability, and inclusion must be integral to innovation from the very beginning, not after an invention is complete. Because a solution can be brilliant and still leave people behind. Perhaps the unfinished part of innovation is the distance between what we create and the people we have yet to reach. True progress means moving forward together. Who haven't we reached yet?
