Laurel Rab: Trump's veto constrains Democrats despite election gains

Laurel Rab, Director of the US Programme at Chatham House, said Democratic gains in the congressional elections do not remove the US president's power to veto legislation. In an interview with Al Jazeera, she noted that overriding a veto requires a two-thirds majority in the Senate, which means winning Republican votes despite Democratic progress. She added that this balance complicates efforts to end the war on Iran and puts Republicans in a position to either back the president or join Democrats in ending it.
