University of Tokyo president selection: minister says written reply insufficient

The Japanese education ministry asked the University of Tokyo to explain the process behind the selection of its next president, and the university replied in writing. 東京大学の次期総長の選考を巡り、文部科学省が経緯の検証などを要請し、東大側が文書で示した回答について、関文科大臣は「選考の理由は今なお明らかにされていない」と述べ、さらなる説明を求めました。 　東大の総長選を巡っては、9月28日に開かれた選考会議で、教職員らによる投票で2位だった大学院総合文化研究科の藤垣裕子教授（64）を次期総長に選びましたが、得票は1位の候補の約半数でした。 　文科省は10月20日に経緯の説明を要請し、東大側は30日に文書で回答しました。 　その中で総長選考・監察会議の16人で2回の無記名投票を行い、藤垣候補が12票と過半数を獲得したことなどを明らかにしました。 　関文科大臣は今月2日、閣議の後の記者会見で文書回答について「一定の進展はあった」としましたが、「教職員らによる投票結果と異なる選考を行うに到った理由は何だったのかなど、選考の理由についての説明は今なお明確になされていない」と述べました。 　そして、「どのような客観的な事実に基づいて候補者を比較、検討し、今回の判断に至ったのか、判断の合理性について十分な説明が必要だと考えている」として、さらなる説明を求めました。 [テレ朝NEWS] https://news.tv-asahi.co.jp
