WFP cuts food aid to 500,000 people in Gaza amid severe funding shortfall

The World Food Programme (WFP) said it has been forced to cut cash assistance and food aid in the Gaza Strip by one third due to a severe funding shortage. As a result, around 500,000 of the 1.6 million people it had targeted will no longer receive essential support. The agency is calling for $450 million in urgent funding to sustain its operations ahead of winter.

国連機関のWFP（世界食糧計画）は資金不足のため、パレスチナ・ガザ地区で実施してきた住民への支援を大幅に削減せざるを得なくなったと発表しました。 　WFPは19日、深刻な資金不足を理由に、ガザ地区で実施してきた現金支給や食糧支援を3分の1に削減せざるを得なくなったと声明をだしました。 　これにより、これまで対象としてきた160万人のうち50万人に重要な支援が届かなくなるとしています。 　WFPによりますと、ガザ地区では人口の3分の2にあたる約140万人が危機的なレベルの食糧不安などに直面していて、このうち約20万人は飢餓に陥る恐れがあるということです。 　去年10月にイスラエルとイスラム組織「ハマス」の間で停戦が実現して以降、住民は人道支援にアクセスできるようになったものの、大幅な改善とはいえず、状況はすぐに悪化する可能性があると警告しています。 　冬場に向けて支援が必要なことから、WFPは活動を維持するために4億5000万ドル＝日本円で712億円が緊急で必要だと訴えています。 [テレ朝NEWS] https://news.tv-asahi.co.jp
