Who gets into medicine and why it matters for patients | Mimi Hudson | TEDxSanDiegoSalon
Barriers to entering the healthcare workforce may be one of the most overlooked obstacles to health equity. In this TEDxSanDiegoSalon talk, Mimi Hudson, a Clinical Research Coordinator, draws on her own path into healthcare to examine who gets the chance to become the people who provide care. The talk looks beyond access to care for patients and asks who is able to pursue medicine and other clinical roles. Hudson's work at UCSD Health Moores Cancer Center, supporting gynecologic oncology clinical trials, informs her focus on representation and equitable care for women, communities of color, Indigenous populations and other historically marginalized groups.

She earned her degree in Human Physiology from the University of Oregon and currently works at UCSD Health Moores Cancer Center as part of the Gynecologic Oncology Clinical Research team, where she supports clinical trials focused on advancing treatment options for women with cancer. She is particularly drawn to clinical research for the opportunities it creates for patients—expanding access to innovative therapies and providing care options that may not otherwise be available. As an aspiring PA, Mimi is deeply committed to advancing equitable, inclusive healthcare. She is especially passionate about improving access, outcomes, and representation for women, communities of color, Indigenous populations, and other historically marginalized groups who continue to face systemic disparities in care. Her work is grounded in the belief that high-quality healthcare should be accessible to all.
