Former International Court of Justice President and former UN ambassador Tsuneo Kowata gave a special lecture at the United Nations University headquarters in Shibuya, Tokyo, marking the 70th anniversary of Japan's UN membership. About 150 people attended the talk, titled "The UN System and Japan's Role in the Age of Globalization," which covered the UN's part in international peace, security and the rule rule of law, and Japan's contributions. Japan was admitted as the 80th UN member on December 18, 1956.

日本が国連に加盟してから今年で70年となるのを記念して、国際司法裁判所元所長の小和田恆さんの特別講演会が開かれました。 　東京・渋谷の国連大学本部での講演会には国際司法裁判所の元所長で元国連大使の小和田恆さんが登壇し、一般の参加者や関係者などおよそ150人が耳を傾けました。 　日本は1956年12月18日に国連の80番目の加盟国として承認され、第2次世界大戦後、国際社会への復帰を果たしました。 　小和田さんは1994年から4年間、国連大使を務めたほか、2003年から15年間にわたり国際司法裁判所の裁判官を務め、そのうち3年間は所長でした。 　講演では「グローバル化時代における国連システムと日本の役割」をテーマに、外交や国際法の経験を踏まえ、国際社会の平和と安全、そして法の支配を実現するうえでの国連の役割や日本の貢献について考えを述べました。 　国連を巡っては安全保障理事会の機能不全などが指摘されるなか、加盟70年の節目に日本と国連の今後の関わり方が改めて問われています。 [テレ朝NEWS] https://news.tv-asahi.co.jp
