"40 Years of Household Waste": Are 7 Tons of Paper Documents Being Handed Out at Once? Examining the Reality and Background of Diet Customs | Spotlight Investigative Reporting Project

A Fuji Television investigative reporting project, "Spotlight," examines long-standing customs in the Japanese Diet. Starting from a survey of younger lawmakers, the video looks at which practices may need revisiting. Paper-based documents and slow digitization were the most frequently cited issues. The report says budget materials amount to about 10 kg per lawmaker, over 7 tonnes in total, comparable to roughly 40 years of household waste per person in Japan. It also covers problems such as lawmakers' offices being overwhelmed with paperwork.
