Descripción de TEDx Talks

In this eye-opening TEDx talk, Afowiri Kizito Fondzenyuy, widely known as the “Toghu Marathoner,” reveals how he transformed his passion for marathon running into a powerful movement for education, inclusion, and social change. Drawing from his personal journey as a father, philanthropist, and Guinness World Records titleholder, Afowiri challenges us to rethink what it truly means to make a difference. Through his advocacy for children facing barriers to education, his efforts to raise autism awareness, and his work with the AMOM Foundation, which has reached approximately 20,000 children in Cameroon, he demonstrates how one person's determination can create opportunities for thousands. His story goes beyond running marathons. It is about turning personal passion into public purpose, challenging inequality through action, and recognising that meaningful change does not always begin with extraordinary resources, but with the courage to act. Because sometimes, the most powerful way to give others a voice is not through what we say, but through what we choose to do. Afowiri Kizito Fondzenyuy, known as the “Toghu Marathoner,” is a Cameroonian philanthropist, autism advocate and founder of the AMOM Foundation and Yaoundé Cultural Marathon. A leader in data management, governance and financial risk, he brings over two decades of experience to community development and inclusion. Wearing Toghu, Cameroon’s traditional attire, Fondzenyuy uses running to celebrate cultural heritage and champion children facing barriers. He holds the Guinness World Records title for the fastest marathon wearing a Toghu (male), is an Abbott World Marathon Majors Six-Star Finisher and has completed marathons on all seven continents. Through AMOM, his educational initiatives have reached about 20,000 children in Cameroon, supporting schools, scholarships, girls’ education and autism awareness. As the father of a child on the autism spectrum, his mission is personal: to establish a dedicated school for children with autism and other special needs in Cameroon. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
