Description de TEDx Talks

What makes an art exhibition truly unforgettable and who makes it possible behind the scenes? In this personal and heartfelt talk, Indonesian artist and illustrator Mohammad Taufiq, known professionally as Emte, shares his journey from a young boy selling handmade comics to becoming a professional artist whose work has reached audiences around the world. Through personal stories and reflections, he reveals how a lifelong passion for drawing became his profession and led him to recognize the often overlooked people who make art exhibitions possible. Featuring a personal journey through decades of artistic growth, this talk shifts the spotlight from the artist and the artwork to the unsung heroes known as art handlers the people responsible for transporting, installing, lighting and carefully preparing artworks for exhibition. These behind scenes contributors may rarely receive recognition, yet their work plays a crucial role in how art is experienced and appreciated. By sharing his perspective as both an artist and an art handler, Emte invites us to reconsider who deserves credit when something beautiful comes to life. Mohammad Taufiq, better known as Emte, is a self taught artist who earned a degree in Visual Communication Design from the Jakarta Institute of the Arts (IKJ). Since kindergarten, he has loved drawing, filling books and walls with doodles. Emte has built a versatile portfolio spanning comic strips, magazine illustrations, album covers, book designs, merchandise, and fine art paintings. Richly influenced by music, pop culture, humor, and everyday urban experiences, his signature visual language is characterized by meticulous compositions and fluid, melting colors shaped by the unpredictable nature of watercolor. Emte’s works have been exhibited in Indonesia and internationally, including presentations at Art Jakarta, Unknown Asia (Japan), the London Book Fair, and several group exhibitions in Australia, Bulgaria, Frankfurt, New York, China, and Canada. He has held solo exhibitions in Jakarta and Germany. Emte is also the author of several zines and graphic novels. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
