* (Disclaimer: The content in this video is intended for educational and informational purposes only) Jefferson County, Ohio — On May 24, 2026, Steubenville Police Officers responded to the area of 905 Brady Avenue after multiple 911 calls reported a man with a handgun who was pointing the weapon at passing vehicles and placing additional firearms inside a vehicle at the Team Ford dealership. According to the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Matthew Metzger had arrived at the dealership around 4:40 p.m. in a black Jeep Cherokee and spent time moving between the dealership and a parking lot across Brady Avenue. Surveillance footage showed Metzger eventually removing three long guns, a Mossberg 20-gauge shotgun, a Bergara .22-caliber rifle and a DPMS A-15 5.56mm rifle, along with a can of ammunition from his Jeep and placing them inside an unsecured Ford pickup truck on the dealership property. Investigators also determined that Metzger pointed a handgun at a passing motorist and reportedly told the motorist they were under arrest. Police arrived shortly after 5:03 p.m. and encountered Metzger near his Jeep across the street from the dealership. One officer approached with a patrol rifle and repeatedly ordered Metzger to show his hands and drop the gun. A second officer arrived moments later and also deployed a rifle. Body-worn-camera footage captured Metzger repeatedly telling officers to “stand down” while claiming he was the head of DARPA. Investigators said Metzger refused repeated commands to drop the handgun. As officers positioned themselves, Metzger began running across Brady Avenue toward the dealership. The BCI investigation and surveillance footage indicate that Metzger was pointing an object as he ran, and gunfire then erupted. The investigation determined that Metzger discharged his 9mm handgun approximately four times, while the two officers fired approximately 12 .223 rifle rounds. The shooting ended with Metzger falling near the roadway and being secured by officers. Police immediately requested emergency medical assistance and began providing first aid before Steubenville Fire Department EMS arrived. Radio traffic documented that Metzger had suffered head and chest injuries, and officers subsequently located a handgun near him.
