In this TEDx presentation, Max de Stéfani reflects on the dangers of social conformity and the importance of embracing individuality. The speaker shares his experience of celebrating his birthday by exploring Itatiaia National Park with friends, swapping a traditional party for mountain trails and outdoor games,to question why we so often choose to go with the flow and do only what is expected. He references Solomon Asch's famous conformity experiment to demonstrate how group pressure leads people to ignore their own perceptions just to fit in. Max warns that constantly trying to align with social trends and others' expectations can distance us from who we truly are and stifle creativity. He invites the audience to view authenticity not as something to hide, but to celebrate, reminding us that the most meaningful experiences and world-changing ideas come from challenging expectations rather than following them.
