**TRUMP’S $5,000 ELECTION PROMISE: CASH FOR AMERICANS IF GOP WINS? | US POLITICS LIVE** US President Donald Trump is doubling down on his promise to pay $5,000 to every adult American citizen if Republicans win control of both chambers of Congress in the November 2026 midterm elections. In a video ad posted on his social media accounts, Trump said Democrats would block the proposal and claimed their victory would lead to higher taxes and an economic depression. He argued that a Republican win would bring $5,000 into Americans’ pockets and deliver unprecedented economic success. The proposed payment, branded the “Trump Dividend,” was previously announced at the Republican midterm convention in September. The White House has promoted it as a payment funded by tariff revenues. However, the proposal faces major questions over funding and implementation. FactCheck.org estimated the pledge would cost around $1.2 trillion, while PolitiFact reported that no formal payment plan had been announced and congressional approval would be needed.
