A late-night fire that tore through an abandoned building in Toronto’s Riverside neighbourhood is now being investigated by police as a suspicious incident. The fire broke out just after 9:30 p.m. Wednesday night, prompting a three-alarm response from firefighters. The northbound lanes of the Don Valley Parkway were closed as a result, allowing crews to surround the building and fight the blaze from all sides. One man in his thirties was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and the fire has since been extinguished, but crews say the structural integrity of the building has been compromised. The historic building stood for over 130 years but had been vacant for years — last operating as a live event space and coffee company.
