Another shooting involving US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has sparked outrage in New York City. On October 8, a federal immigration officer shot Oscar Belgal, a 28-year-old Dominican man, during an operation in Marble Hill. His five-year-old child was reportedly inside the car but was physically unharmed. New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has condemned the shooting, demanded answers from federal authorities and renewed his call to abolish ICE. The incident has intensified tensions between New York City and the Trump administration over federal immigration enforcement. But can Mamdani actually force ICE out of New York City? This explainer examines the shooting, the federal government's response, New York's sanctuary-city policies and the legal limits of mayoral power. While Mamdani can restrict local cooperation with federal immigration enforcement within legal limits, abolishing ICE would require action at the federal level, with Congress playing a central role. Watch the full report to understand the growing ICE controversy and the battle over immigration enforcement in America. #ICE #ZohranMamdani #DonaldTrump #ICEShooting #USImmigration CNN-News18 is your trusted source for breaking news, updates, and in-depth analysis from around the world.
