While neuroscience can map trillions of neural connections and explain how information is processed, it falls short of capturing the subjective experience of consciousness and feeling. In this talk, the concepts of thought, consciousness, knowing, and feeling are explored through the lens of modern neuroscience, the 'filter/modem' brain hypothesis of William James and Henri Bergson, and the philosophical framework of Al-Ghazali. While the brain analyzes and generates options, the heart guides our orientation, values, and choices. The speaker highlights the crucial balance between mind and heart, where knowledge transforms not into pride, but into humility and moral wisdom Associate Professor Murad Asiltürk, MD, graduated from Ankara Anatolian High School. He received his medical degree from Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine in 1992. He completed his residency at Bakırköy Mazhar Osman Mental Health and Neurological Diseases Training and Research Hospital, becoming a Specialist in Neurosurgery in 1998. He received training in microvascular anatomy and microvascular dissection at the University of Zurich laboratory, as well as microsurgery and cadaver dissection training in various anatomy laboratories. He served as an observer surgeon on three separate occasions at the Department of Neurosurgery at Helsinki University. Earning the title of Associate Professor in 2000, Dr. Murad Asiltürk currently practices at Medicana Ataköy Hospital in Bakırköy, Istanbul. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
