Upon arrival, the officers observed the suspect, later identified as 53-year-old Cynthia Anne Ivie Akers, standing behind the convenience store’s front counter. Akers then suddenly moved toward the counter, and grabbed a handgun from a zippered bag, resulting in an Officer-Involved Shooting (OIS). Akers was struck by gunfire and subsequently taken into custody. The officers immediately rendered medical aid and requested the response of the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD). LAFD personnel responded to the scene and pronounced Akers deceased. The investigation later determined that the weapon in Akers’ possession was a pellet gun.
