According to the Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Report, Stenson had flown from Atlanta to Peoria that day for an upcoming wedding when White unexpectedly appeared at the airport and took her with him in his pickup truck. While inside the vehicle, Stenson began texting relatives that White was threatening her and would not let her leave. Her family contacted 911 at about 6:45 p.m., providing police with descriptions of the pair and White’s truck. Stenson continued sending updates about their location until she reported that they had arrived at the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel. An officer went to the hotel and found White and Stenson standing on the sidewalk outside. As the officer stepped from his marked squad car and asked them to identify themselves while keeping their hands up, White immediately pulled a handgun and shot Stenson. The report states that White then stood over her and continued firing before turning the gun toward the officer. The officer drew his service weapon and fired multiple rounds at White, who attempted to flee as the gunfire continued. The officer pursued him until White was struck and fell to the ground, where he was taken into custody. White was transported to a local hospital but was pronounced dead.
